Lost Acorn Lyrics

Serene
Music and Lyrics by Amy Jo Claffey
Composer's Notes:
I wrote this song for my granddaughter and ride-or-die bitch, Serene. We have always been best friends. Her first words were to me. She was only 9 months old, and I set her down on the kitchen table, about to say the phrase I always said to her, randomly, "So, how ya doin'?" I only got the word "So" out, though, and that little 9 month old piped up with "How-a do-a"! Our friendship has only grown stronger over the years. Anyone who has had a close relationship with their grandma (Serene calls me "Gramstie") knows the kinship and love that we share. It is priceless, unforgettable, and undeniable.
Serene and I have danced in the woods, laughed through movies, discussed every topic imaginable, made cookies, supported each other, loved animals, planned tattoos, and grown together. One of the many things she does for me is curate music. My knowledge of music stays relevant because of her. On this particular evening, Serene and I were driving straight West in the sunset, and she was playing music for me, and we had this transcendent moment of peace and soul-soaring. I knew even at that time that I would be writing a song for this eternal snapshot in time: a true Gramstie and Serene moment.

Music and Lyrics by Amy Jo Claffey

Pull down the shade, the sun is glarin' in my eyes
This kind of music, baby, always makes me cry
Headin' straight West until the sun makes me blind
Wheels are on the pavement but I swear to God I'm flyin'

Serene, Serene
I'm not in heaven, not on earth,
But lost somewhere in between
Serene, Serene
Oh, the earth is her soul,
She drinks the sun, from her tureen
Serene

Turn up that song, it's pullin' moontides in my core
Seems like I heard this music hundred years before
Drive me on down the highway, drive to that star
Wanderin' inside our soul, we might find out who we are

Serene, Serene
I'm not in heaven, not on earth,
But lost somewhere in between
Serene, Serene
Oh, the earth is her soul,
She drinks the sun, from her canteen
Serene

Flitting through my memory, dancin' in the woods
Like white lines on the highway, flicker things we understood
Sunsets and sunrises, floating through my mind
Like clouds on the horizons, leaving trails behind

Sunset is lower now, the colors make me weep
Wind blowin' in my hair and miles before I sleep
Give me your hand, my darlin', I feel you near
In the rhythm of the song, it's your heartbeat I'm hearin'

Serene, Serene
I'm not in heaven, not on earth,
But lost somewhere in between
Serene, Serene
Oh, the earth is her soul,
She drinks the sun, from her tureen
Serene

Serene, Serene
I'm not in heaven, not on earth,
But lost somewhere in between
Serene, Serene
Oh, the earth is her soul,
She drinks the sun, from her canteen
Serene
